How Do Bonus Points Work in Fantasy Premier League?

Bonus points in FPL are a way to reward the top-performing players in each match - beyond just goals, assists, or clean sheets.

They’re often the difference between a green and a red arrow.

🎯 What Are Bonus Points?

In every Premier League match, 3 bonus points are awarded to the best player, 2 points to the second-best, and 1 point to the third.

If players are tied, the points are split (e.g. 2 players can each get 3 points).

---

🔢 How Are Bonus Points Calculated?

FPL uses a metric called the Bonus Points System (BPS). It’s an algorithm that tracks real-time stats from the match and scores players based on:

• Key contributions: Goals (attacker/defender), assists, clean sheets, saves
• Passing accuracy, clearances, interceptions, blocks, etc.
• Discipline: Players lose BPS for yellow/red cards, fouls, offsides, or missed chances

The player with the highest BPS gets 3 bonus points.

🧠 Examples

• A defender who keeps a clean sheet, makes multiple blocks, and completes passes may win bonus points even without a goal.
• A striker who scores but also misses big chances might lose out on bonus to a midfielder with an assist + all-around performance.

---

⚠️ Bonus Point Tips

• Goalkeepers and defenders often sneak bonus when they keep a clean sheet with solid defensive stats.
• Holding midfielders rarely get bonuses unless they score.
• Avoid captaining players who win 4-0 but don’t get involved - bonus usually goes to attackers or defenders with more direct impact.
