Every year, right around this time, the same question takes over FPL Twitter: when does the game actually open?
This week, FPL Joe put some real analysis behind the guesswork. Looking at how Fantasy Premier League has launched in previous seasons, he pointed out that the game has historically opened 25 to 51 days before Gameweek 1, usually landing around the 30-day mark. Using the last two seasons as a reference - and factoring in this year's compressed pre-season schedule around the World Cup and Club World Cup - his two most likely launch dates are Wednesday, July 22nd or Monday, July 27th:

Nobody outside of the FPL team can confirm an exact date until the game quietly appears online, but this is about as close to an educated guess as you'll get. If the pattern holds, we're realistically days away from prices, teams and mini-leagues going live for 2026/27.
Launch day means one thing behind the scenes: the official FPL site resets your mini-league view for the new season.
Last season's final standings, who won which award, the title race that came down to the final Gameweek, the rival who bottled a 40-point lead - all of that becomes far harder to dig back up once the new season's table takes over. The official app was never built to keep last year's story easily accessible.
If your league has been running for a while, this is genuinely your last realistic window to grab a copy of last season's standings, scores and stats before they get buried under this year's new table.
Grab a clean screenshot or export of the final table, weekly scores and the season's key moments now - before it becomes yesterday's news once the new game opens.
Screenshots fade into camera rolls. If you want your mini-league's story - standings, weekly scores, awards, transfers and charts - archived properly and available every season from now on, that's exactly what FPL.fun's history feature is built for. Once it's saved, nothing gets wiped when the new season starts.

Once the game opens, everyone will be creating teams and joining leagues within hours. Have your mini-league link ready to share so nobody misses the first deadline.
